The reopened Semperbau am Zwinger houses the Skulpturensammlung (Sculpture Collection) up to 1800 with antique pictorial works as well as sculptures and statues of the early modern period in common with the masterpieces of the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister. The mutually stimulating interaction between painting and sculpture can be vividly experienced during the museum tour.
In the Albertinum, the Skulpturensammlung from 1800 and the Galerie Neue Meister present themselves as a joint museum of art from Romanticism to the present day.
The Skulpturensammlung holds works dating from more than five millennia – from the cultures of classical antiquity via all the various periods of European statuary art from the early Middle Ages down to the present day.
